Note to Safeway Homer manager I know you are mandated to use paper bags from the City of Homer but, call to action, could you accommodate the 'senior population' a little more??? I have shopped Carrs/Safeway for 60 years. I love shopping in the store and visiting with some of the employees weekly. And the flowers!!! Sadly, now I avoid Safeway if I can get it at SaveUMore or Coles. BUT~~case in point. Last week when we got 6 inches of new snow. I bought 4 bags of groceries on Friday. I have to trudge thru the snow 'one bag at a time' with a slick paper bag, NO HANDLES and one ripped with a carton of milk. I had to come in the house and get a Save U More yellow bag and re-bag my groceries scattered in the snow. And now we have treacherous Ice! We 'seniors' would happily pay !0 cents more for a clean, sensible recyclable plastic bag (like Save U More) or even a paper bag 'with handles'. (Like Ulmers) In conclusion, I'm 91 years old, in good health, I walk in the Sparrc every day. Lots of retired senior citizens in Homer!! Yesterday I counted 6 Yellow SaveUMore plastic, useful, recyclable bags ~~folks carrying their walking shoes. I implore Safeway to offer an alternative to those cumbersome, wasteful paper bags.
I shop at Safeway often. However most days the shelf are al most always empty. I sure hope this new manager can keep the shelves stocked better. In saying this during the Christmas holiday shopping I did. Customers were focused on last minute items. Everyone was busy with their list but not rude or pushy. I appreciated that very much.
The staff is each doing two and three jobs and is still going out of their way to be kind and helpful. I don’t know that they can control inventory or items running out, but when shipments do arrive they really hustle to get items on the shelves, all while helping customers. I’ve been impressed by this community and this team at Safeway.
The Safeway in Homer, Alaska still does a list job of stocking inventory. They called and told me it was a temporary situation. New manager and several years later, it's still the same problem - staple items are not available. Drive to Safeway in Soldotna or Kenai, and their shelves are fully stocked!
Honestly the best Safeway yet when going to a kenai penninsula town. Has everything prepared for camping down in Homer Alaska! The capital of halibut fishing!
