Safeway

By far the worst grocery store in Kona. Not only is their price gouging through the roof, but every time I go here they are understaffed and their employees are way overworked. It's honestly depressing to shop here. As a local resident I try to go as little as possible. Go check out KTA or the farmer's market instead! They get one extra star because of their low gas prices. Fill up your car here then shop elsewhere. Save your money and energy!

We got there late. They didn't have our favorite chicken pot pies. Of course it was too late. Eggs are over $15 for 18 eggs. Life goes on! Safeway has products that other stores might not have. Therefore, there is a need sometimes to buy here. Otherwise, it would be wise to buy from Costco and Walmart first for items and then Safeway. We like their chicken pot pie. It's tasty and has a lot of white meat chicken in it. Costco is a better buy for volume, but is lacking on chicken and doesn't taste as good. The produce costs more than other stores, but they definitely have a better selection. So choose Safeway knowing you will be paying more. Buy when they have a sale on something you want. This makes their prices make sense. The Friday rewards member sales were great. The totol savings was 45% off the retail price. Safeway pricing is about double other places like Costco or Walmart. Target has items that are up to 50% less than Safeway. So it's best to shop around. Safeway does have a larger selection of food and other items than Costco or Target. We're back after being away for awhile. We found all the missing food items we wanted and more. The hand prepared sushi was delicious! Safeway has what we needed. Chicken pot pie is very delicious. Newman's creamy caesar dressing is great on salad with goat cheese. Most items there are more expensive than Walmart, but Safeway has more good produce and deli items to choose from. Of course, there is always Costco for twice as much quantity for the same price. It's good to have Safeway when you can't get the item elsewhere!

There Fridays deals are awsome. We come here every Friday for the $5 deals . There's good deals on meat always . The bathrooms always need attention, my girl will not use them. Other then that , we really like shopping here

Great selection of food and Hawaiian gifts. Be sure to use the app because some sales are not advertised on the shelf. Managed to save about 10% just by scanning everything I bought through the app.

At my age the Kailua Kona Hawaii Safeway is still brand new and has been improved. Overal: l expect freshest and best quality vegetables. I am guessing with shipping such a big deal here the volume of shoppers provides swift turnover. selection, verity, routine decent sales. I haven't pursued the Pharmacy and section but appears to have more varied options to choose from then I find typical in other area grocery stores. Very reliable great selection of Bakery goods. Haven't shopped the alcohol but it seems quite large. I find the deli counter remarkably slow, still after 25 years. Typically holiday items are profusely provided for. As a infrequent shopper I usually have a cart and really appreciate wide enough aisles. Huge parking lot and for those inclined a gas station to the side of parking. Typically not enough checkers to handle the flow. Not a quick run in and pick something up, car door to car door is a lot of square feet. I typically shop Safeway to take advantage of sales or the inventory for specific items but not at Safeway exclusively.
