So I pay to be a member. Membership means: 1) Get your own cart from the parking lot. Employees dont bring them to the front of the store like every other retailer in America. 2) Consistently wait at least 20 minutes at a crowded deli . It is so bad that I start shopping there so that the rest of my groceries dont get warm while I wait. Dont bother ordering ahead on the ap. They never bother filling the order. 3) The selection of beef cuts is garbage. Good luck finding a NY strip or any other recognizable steak. 4) The checkout line usually stretches 50-100 feet on the weekends. Literally from the checkout area to the back of the store. 5) There is an over-agressive salesperson hawking cell service that no one wants at every visit. Maybe they should be helping bring in carts? Definitely gonna let my membership expire. Maybe Costco or Sams Club will come to town soon.
My go to for all household necessities for years, Great team. I recently had a small issue at the self checkout, The gentleman (who is some form of management) promptly came over with some witty humor (made me smile) and happily solved my issue with ease. He graciously said I hope to see you back soon. I really appreciate the great service with a smile! Thank you sir, you know who you are.
I was shopping with my wife and elderly mother in Dartmouth BJ's (01/17/26) and we were checking out around 8:30pm. The cashier was having difficulty figuring out some special Purina coupons we received from Purina corporate (how to enter) and asked a supervisor, who in turn asked a manager and a second manager. First we were told we could only use "one per membership" (which is false) and the cashier pointed this out to the supervisor by reading the coupon, that we can use up to 4 Purina coupons per day. The supervisor said no, again, so I asked to speak with a manager. While I was speaking to the manager, (nice guy by the way) an employee (Jacinto C. Closing Supervisor) rudely chimed in and stated (Loudly) "Only one coupon per member!" (twice) I told him he was wrong, and asked if he read the coupon, because it CLEARLY stated we could use up to 4 coupons per day. (These coupons are not specific to BJ's, they can be used in any store) Jacinto became more belligerent and louder with me, so I said to the manager, "This is how you treat customers here? This isn't right". Jacinto continued to speak inappropriately to me so I told him, "You're pretty mouthy in here, but outside of BJ's, I'm sure it would be a different story". He then ran around the corner and right up to my face yelled "YOU WANNA FIGHT ME OUTSIDE? LET'S GO I'LL KILL YOU". To which I replied "That's not at all what I said, but ok, lets go". Jacinto immediately stopped when I said ok, (typical bully/coward behavior) and the manager told him to go away (To the break room) and apologized profusely to me over and over again. I told him I didn't appreciate being threatened and treated this way as a customer, and that I would be writing to BJ's corporate about the incident. I told the manager we often purchase cat food and litter from BJ's (and other stores) to donate to no-kill shelters, and have never been treated (mistreated) this way as customers! The manager apologized multiple times again, (The employee NEVER apologized) and also stated that Jacinto had a "death in the family" which was why he was "acting this way". (Not an excuse) Not only were we appalled by the way we were treated as paying customers, I did not appreciate the threats of violence from a BJ's employee, especially a closing supervisor! (FYI: My mother is 79 years old and my wife and I are 56 years old, so we are not young "kids") Again, we are embarrassed and disgusted by this employee's actions and treatment. I would also like to add that the male manager was excellent and professional the whole time, as was the female cashier who checked us out. The other (blonde female) supervisor was not very professional or knowledgeable.
I don't like leaving negative reviews but I am mad enough at the moment to leave one as I sit in the parking lot. The checkout line was incredibly long waiting for one of only two cashiers that were open. However, there were 10 to 12 self checkout stations, but every single one of them said 20 items or less. The cashier supervisor told me that there just wasn't enough help to hire that's why there was only two cashiers and if I didn't like it, I could apply for a job there. As a business owner, who also struggles finding employees, I found her comment in incredibly rude to a customer. Most customers do not mind checking themselves out and you should change some of the 20 items or less registers to unlimited so one could check themselves out within a timely manner and be on their way. That's what good customer service at BJs would allow a BJ's member to do rather than have empty self check stations and huge wait times at cashiers.
This place has gone downhill. Most of the food I bought was on its last good by date. They wanted 75 for pork belly that was already turning brown. Their prices have gone up while the selection and quality has gone down. I bought these onions yesterday.
