EXTREMELY OVERPRICED!!!!! Do not shop here unless you absolutely have to. And if you're going to get more than 3 to 5:00, I urge you to go to Market Basket or Trader Joe's. The service here, is the worst service I've ever seen in a grocery store.
As regular shoppers at Crosby’s Marketplace in Marblehead, Massachusetts, we appreciate the convenient location and the ease of access this neighborhood grocery store provides. Certain departments, particularly the bakery, are consistently excellent—the breads, pastries, and cookies rarely disappoint and often feel like a highlight of shopping here. Unfortunately, the produce section is where Crosby’s Marketplace falters. On numerous occasions, we’ve encountered fruit—especially berries packaged in plastic containers—with mold that wasn’t visible until after purchase. Discovering spoiled produce so soon after bringing it home is not only frustrating but also a concern when it comes to food safety and quality standards. While many members of the management team have been accommodating with returns, this recurring issue reflects a lack of proper monitoring. Shoppers should not have to act as quality inspectors; a grocery store should proactively safeguard customer health by removing spoiled products from the floor. To be fair, most of the management team at Crosby’s has handled returns with professionalism and courtesy. However, there was one recent instance where an on-site manager refused to accept a return for moldy berries purchased just two days prior—even though they had been refrigerated and only opened when we were ready to use them. The refusal was surprising and, frankly, not the level of customer service one would expect from an established community grocer. In short, Crosby’s Marketplace in Marblehead remains a convenient local option with a few standout departments, but shoppers should approach the produce aisle with caution. Until there is more consistent oversight in their food quality, one has to be diligent—and perhaps keep a sense of humor about always inspecting the strawberries as though you’re solving a mystery novel.
It's a small supermarket but you can find almost everything you need.
Everything you need right in town. Kids love the fish tank
I've only been there a couple of times but each time I've been the cashiers are talking to someone else who works there so they make me feel like I'm interrupting. The store is set up really nice like at Trader Joe's but I would go to it more often if the cashiers were different. I have a pleasant time in there until check out, the seafood looks amazing.
