BRINGING AWARENESS TO A SERIOUS SITUATION On August 3rd, I went to the Chester ShopRite to buy a birthday cake and ended up choosing a carrot cake from the bakery section. Everything seemed normal at the time. We brought the cake home and stored it in the fridge. When it was time to sing happy birthday and cut the cake, I took it out and noticed there were two stickers on the cake lid, one directly covering the other. I peeled off the top sticker. To my shock, the sticker underneath had a sell by date of June 27, and the sticker on top, which the store clearly wanted us to see, had a much later sell by date of August 8.🤮🤮🤢🤢 That’s a difference of more than a month, and it was clear that the newer sticker was placed intentionally to cover the original. I called ShopRite right away to ask for an explanation. I spoke to a woman who said, “I’ve never heard of that before,” and suggested it was probably due to reusing old lids. Then I spoke to a man who also said he’d “never heard of that happening.” He told me I could bring the cake back for a refund. I brought the cake back to the Chester location and explained the issue. I told the man at the customer service desk that I wanted a refund, not a replacement, because I didn’t trust the cakes at this point. He refunded me with no issue. As we were about to leave, i decided to go check the bakery section where I originally got the cake. And found another cake on display with two stickers, the top one clearly placed to cover up the original sell by date underneath. I brought that cake to the front and asked to speak with a manager or someone from the bakery. From the moment she arrived, she was unapologetic and passive aggressive. Instead of acknowledging the seriousness of the issue, she brushed it off and said, “We have a new guy working.” This did not sit right with me. especially since earlier I was told it might be due to reusing lids. So which is it? Is it a new employee’s error, or a reused lid? Either way, it was clear they were just making up excuses on the spot, and it felt very dishonest. It was honestly an insult to my intelligence and everyone else this lives in this area. I have more than 2 braincells. We left SHOCKED It was a Sunday evening, and we still needed to get a cake, but our options were limited. We found a cake and went to self checkout. As we scanned it, my boyfriend jokingly said, “Imagine this one’s old too,” so we checked the sell by date….and it was: July 15. That’s almost three weeks past. We looked around and saw that most of the cakes on the table had the same July 15 sell by date. The only difference was that these cakes weren’t covered up with a second sticker. We told the employees and the Warwick staff were much more polite and apologetic. We ended up choosing a cake from a different section that had a good sell by date and finally left with something we could feel okay eating….. I’m sharing this because my family has been buying ShopRite cakes for birthdays and celebrations for years. To think that we could have unknowingly eaten a cake that was more than a month past its original sell by date, simply because someone slapped a new sticker over it, is disturbing. Whether it’s due to negligence or something else, it’s unacceptable. Especially from a billion dollar corporation. Cutting corners like this is dangerous. Seems quite well stocked for usual supermarket stuff like groceries, toiletries, (deep) frieze stuff, etc. it has a manned and self checkout sections. It’s spacious and diverse, but could benefit from non-household products like basic car and tooling supplies (eg basic screwdriver, windshield wiper, etc.)

Everyone these days seems more concerned about online orders than the customers waiting right there in the store. You can have four people working behind the deli counter, but only one actually helping those in line. Looks like ShopRite has joined that trend — so frustrating!

I like to thank butcher Joe, how he helped me with my purchase while they were short of stuff him and only one other person was filling the shelves, He still went out his way and prepare me a big order of meat that needed the extra work of him so I really like to thank to him. People work at ShopRite to make my shopping trustworthy . He doesnt realize but he has done the same excellent work couple weeks ago while they were busy on the weekend . I am really greatful. Unlike how I was poorly treated on their -middletown - location last week for the same request. So thank you Shoprite Chester and especially to Butcher department! Much live happy holidays .

Supermarket was sufficiently stocked, was very clean. My wife and I saw brands that we hadn't seen since we left NY; that made us feel nostalgic. Employees were very courteous. Enjoyed my experience there.
