Shaw's

Really nice food store in Wilmington. Produce is fresh. Interesting, plentiful options for meals,appetizers, etc. Friendly, helpful staff. The trick is to go when it isn't super busy because then the aisles are difficult to navigate and check out can be slow and challenging!

I have been using pick up and go for a year or so. Went to pick up my order yesterday and no answer from them on 5 times calling. I finallly went into store where there were no employees to be found except on register. I could not find anyone for customer service OR pickup and go so I went and foraged in their freezers for my order. My plan was NOT to go in store as I have covid. I called to let a manager know today, and he was defensive and unapologetic. If you can avoid this store and this sort of treatment DO!!!! This entire ordeal took about 20 minutes.

Not a bad place to get groceries with a large produce and meat section. (avoid the deli section) but the rest is fine. They have actually improved somewhat with an organic section. The beer section carries a wide variety from the name brands to local microbreweries.

The staff look depressed and overworked. They try their hardest and are dedicated BUT Shaws as far as corporate business needs to seriously do more and listen more to their staff.

I’ve been living in Wilmington for a few years now and my appreciation for Shaw’s has grown over those years. For a small grocery store, the selection is outstanding. They have fresh organic herbs, an entire wall of fresh organic produce, a and nice selection of fresh and frozen organic fruit, beans, grains, and other items scattered throughout the store. Their conventional selections are also broad, always fresh, and well stocked. Their beer selection is certainly above average and they carry a small selection of household items as well. It’s true that some of the cashiers have been rude to me, extremely rude, in fact. However, over time I’ve noticed that the rude cashiers tend to come and go. The ones who stick around are mellow and pleasant. It’s also worth saying that for every rude cashier I’ve seen at Shaw’s, I’ve seen 4 or 5 rude tourists. This is especially worth saying because most of the negative reviews on here are from tourists. People visiting from elsewhere might not understand that the population of this town doubles when they are here. During these times, the cashiers at Shaw’s work with a massive, stressed out crowd of multi-lingual, multi-cultural tourists, many of whom, to be honest, carry themselves with an attitude of entitlement. It’s got to be a tough job.
